Dear Ms. Leigh Anne,
I am a fourth grader. I enjoy your rich words in your books. You also write realistic fiction stories to make the characters seem real, because the characters are adventurous and travel around the world. Your books inspire me to write because you have fun writing all of your pieces. You use real animals and give them human qualities, such as talking and traveling around the world.
You also use sequence in your stories, and it helps the reader understand what goes first then last in a chapter. In your stories you also put voice and personality into your characters. Also with rich words you describe better. The books you have written are so entertaining, lively, and fascinating. The characters also use amazing dialogue. Your writing makes you feel like your're standing right there beside them.
Ms. Leigh Anne, your use of descriptive words has had an impact on the way I write my poems and stories. You use a sentence and say something like, if you where talking about grass you would say "the wet dewy grass that they walked on." Also I use descriptive words in my stories when I am using a specific describing sentence. In my poem I use the line "The scrumptious, juicy dead squirrel I killed."
I like to write and read some, but on the other hand I would like to be a veterinarian and work with animals, because I really appreciate animals. In this kind of job you have to take notes on the animal's health, and you explained to us how to write not only sentences but sequence and dialogue.
Thank you Ms. Leigh Anne, for making me more knowledgeable and more descriptive in my writing. Without your motivation I couldn't have improved my writing skills and abilities to become a more talented and enhanced writer.
Sincerely,
A fourth grader

Dear Leigh Anne Florence,
I am a forth grader. I am writing to you to tell you how you had an impact on my writing. I am a lot better at reading and writing. Especially since you came to our assembly and taught us about being better readers, writers, and authors, just like you!!! The techniques you taught us are really good, like WOODY for example, it helped me respect myself, others, and my writing. I look at reading and writing and say, "The sooner I get going the sooner I get done". I love reading and writing, ever since you told us to have fun with our writing.
I admire the way you use a lot of colorful and descriptive language. The descriptive language is very rich, and I respect it. In your book "Woody A New Home" you describe the home by saying "We are moving to the country, with lots of trees and land. There is even a big lake to fish, we know you'll thing it's grand." Your writing is so bold, and so different it just sticks out more than any other author. The way you write makes me feel like I'm there, I try to write like that also. I try to use rich language, make my writing flow, and paint pictures in your mind. For example I used "Clear, pure, seaside air blowing fresh as a morning breeze," in a poem I wrote.
I also love the way you tell most of your stories from Woody's point of view. It just makes the stories such a good, rich, flowing adventure, particularly for us animal lovers. It's very different, because out of every book I've read only one series beside yours, told it from a dog's-point-of-view.
I read a lot of books so I think writing from a dog's-point-of-view is RARE. I've written my sensory poem from a dolphin's-point-of-view. Here is a line from my poem, "The gentle, velvety, soft touch of my calf".
I also LOVE the way you tell about different cities, counties, countries, and states. It is a learning advantage because I get to learn about different places. I try to give my stories multiple settings, but not too many, because I ight make my readers confused.
Your articles also contain strong voice, and emotion. Since I've read your Woody articles I include voice, and emotions, like humor, or anger. It is also important to introduce a writing piece that is only you're best, just like you said. Here are some reasons why it is important:
1. You want only compliments, not hand-me-downs.
2. If you are a professional author you would make better money.
3. The better the piece is the more confident you will feel about you're writing.
Leigh Anne, Thank you for coming to my school, because that and your creative writing has had a really good influence on my writing. I try to write more like you, and definitely try to use all of your techniques. My writing has improved ten-fold since you gave us a pep talk at the assembly.
Sincerely,
Your #1 Fan!!

Dear Leigh Anne Florence,
Hello, I go to Austin Elementary. I had so much fun when you came to our school. I love your books. I have read, "Welcomes a Dad," "A New Home" and "The Adoption." I like them all very much, and I can’t choose which one I like the best. I think Woody is adorable, he has the cutest little "head", I would love for you to come back again so we can see Chloe and hopefully your husband is not sick.
My grandma loves to read, she reads to some of the kids at school sometimes. I go over to her house when I have nothing to do. We live next door so I can just walk over to her house.
I hoped you thought we were a good school. I was trying to be on my best behavior. I couldn’t wait to see you when our teacher told us you were coming. I just read your books the week before you came.
Your friend,
Kayleigh
PS If you would like to write back, it would be a pleaser.

Students from Austin Elementary 5th Grade:
Dear Leigh Anne Florence, Woody and Chloe,
I loved the presentation at both the writing and the one where it was to be successful. It taught me what to do and what not to do in life. Woody is so cute. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see Chloe. It is so cool that you can make the 5 ways to be successful out of Woody’s name. I’ve read Tails from the Bluegrass and I loved it. All of your animals are cute. Your visit will pay off in life later on. Thanks for coming and I hope you come back.
Sincerely,
Dakota
My name is Maggie. I emailed you the other day and you emailed back. I really appreciated the letter!! Thank you very much!! (Our teacher) has bragged on you all week!
Dear Leigh Anne,
I love, love, love your books (even though I’ve only read two). I have three dogs of my own, a yorkie, a Pekinese and yorkie mix, and a labrador retriever. I read Tails from the Bluegrass and I was excited over the Bowling Green chapter because my cousin played for the Hilltoppers. Two years ago, I started thinking about being a children’s author and you really inspired me. Thank you.
Your new friend,
Maggie
Dear Leigh Anne,
Thank you so much for coming to our school. I hope you felt very welcome. I have a wiener dog like you but mine is a long haired dog.

Dear Leigh Anne Florence,

Over summer break I had the most awesome time EVER! I recieved an autograph from an author named Leigh Anne Florence. Leigh Anne writes books about her two dogs, Woody and Chloe. In Maddie's bookstore Colby had his monkey with him. Woody adored Colby's monkey and started to chew on it like our dog would! Leigh Anne started laughing and took the monkey away from Woody. The cute little Kentucky Weiner dog loved the monkey so much that Leigh Anne told him that Santa might get him one for Christmas.
Second, Woody and Chloe both had on sunglasses when I arrived! They made an exact replica of the cover of her book "Tails of the Bluegrass." The glasses were black with an elastic band. I thought those two wiener dogs were the cutest dogs I've ever seen! Going to see Leigh Anne Florence was my most favorite summer memory ever!
This is the "My Summer Fun" journal entry that Kelsey wrote after we returned from Maddie's Bookstore in Danville.
------------------------------
Woody, Chloe, Leigh Anne and Ron,
Thank you for bringing Woody and Chloe. I loved your speech because it was long, cool and it took our day and made it go by faster. I also loved when Woody ate some food out of my hand. And Woody and Chloe look so cool in the sunglasses. I still remember:
Winner
Ownership
Others
Determination
Yourself
Your dogs are so cool!
Sincerely, your friend,
Ryan

Dear Leigh Anne and Woody,
Thank you for coming to Harrison Elementary. I learned that you must always stay in school and must always listen to your teacher. I like your books. My favorite part is when you and Chloe went to the country and got Woody. And thank you for your books. I like them very much.
Your friend,
Kalub
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Leigh Anne and Woody,
Thank you for coming to Harrison. I learned that to take care of a dog you need to teach them they can’t have human food to row big and strong and healthy.
I liked your books. My favorite part was when Woody and Chloe thought you were marrying a wiener dog.
Your friend,
Destiney
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mrs. Leigh Anne Florence, Woody and Chloe,
I want to thank you for the wonderful show you put on for us. It was really appreciated.
I love the show you put on. Seeing Woody and Chloe was exciting. They made me happy when they put on the sunglasses. You gave us excellent advice about the CATS test.
The book was beautiful to read when waiting for others to finish the test. We also learned a lot of Kentucky. Someday I want to visit Monkey’s Eyebrow. Again, I thank you for your friendship and your generosity. We hope you come back next year.
Love,
Angela
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mrs. Florence,
I thought your program sent an excellent message to Harrison students. We really appreciate your positive influence!
Sincerely,
Christina (a student teacher)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Leigh Ann Florence,
I am writing to tell you I love your books and your assembly was great. Woody and Cloe are the cutest dogs I’ve ever seen. Please tell them so and that they should come to our school more often... Tell Woody and Cloe I don’t like hotdogs much either.
My birthday is in 3 months and I’m thinking about having a Woody and Cloe birthday party. If the website has some, I will take the pictures of Woody and Cloe off the internet and paste them on the cups and plates.
Sincerely,
Sarah
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Lee Ann,
I am really glad that you shared your story. I learned that everyone is a winner. I liked the dogs especially Woody. I am happy to call them friends. Now I am gonna act friendly.
Love,
Josh

Leigh Anne Florence,
I am a small canuty kid. The reason why I am writing this letter is because we want to say thank you. And I liked your show because you asked qestons and good ones. My secont reason is you tuk your time to say the words you need to say to us.
You were very nice to us and we want you to come anoter day. We had fun and we lerned stuff we didn’t know. And we thank you.
Love,
Bailey
------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Leigh Ann Florence,
Thank you for coming to (our school). My most favorite part was when you told the story about when you got Woody. My second favorite part is when you put on Who Let The Dogs Out and brought out Woody ad Cloiey.
I liked Woody better than Cloiey because he kept on stiking his tung out when he was trying to get the treat out of your hand.
Leigh Anne Florence, I will be at HotDiggetyDog Night. I will visit thewoodybooks.com.
From,
Zachary
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Leigh Anne,
I really liked your presentation at the gym. I would like to thank you, Woody, Cloe, and your husband. I have many reasons for liking the play. But here are my three favorite reasons:
- You spoke in a clear voice.
- You were very nice. You made everyone laugh.
- There was a big effect on me. It changed me. I would like to thank you.
From,
Justin
